Command the Room through Effective Communication 

Rick is a colleague of mine as well as an esteemed educator known for his expertise in data and pedagogy. With a robust background in how data supports instruction, he has shared his skills not only within Region 13 but also on larger stages across the state of Texas. Rick's presentations are a masterclass in engagement; he combines facts with humor, making complex topics relatable and accessible to his audience. His ability to put people at ease fosters an environment in which learning flourishes, modeling what best practices look like beyond the classroom!

Rick is a phenomenal person. He is professional, articulate, well-prepared, and a high-level contributor. Regarding my experience with him through TEDx, he was quick to respond to emails, arrived early to rehearsals, and stayed late. He seemed to be the calm in the storm for those who were more nervous about the situation. He infused his speech with humor and he was able to connect to the audience on a human level. I have presented in various countries, speaking about technology and education. However, presenting in a second language, especially on innovative and abstract topics such as data-driven processes, the impact of artificial intelligence on education, and how machine learning models can support decision-making to personalize learning, adds a unique challenge. The most complex part is captivating the audience as effectively as I do in Spanish, while explaining these sophisticated concepts to individuals in leadership positions who may not have a technical background. Rick Kutcher’s coaching has been instrumental in this regard. With his patience and strategic approach, he didn’t just focus on my language skills but viewed my presentations as a whole, helping me project confidence and clarity. He provided me with specific techniques to communicate as comfortably and effectively in English as I do in my native language. Thanks to his guidance, I’ve been able to present confidently in high-level forums, including to superintendents in Texas, and he continues to be my coach as I prepare for national presentations.
